Barcode Wind Chime
This video is about painting the screen with technology. I use barcodes like paintbrushes by altering the screen with varying color and opacity. I mimicked the horizontal movement and pacing of barcodes being scanned at a supermarket. For this digital collage I drew inspiration from two Pop artist Jasper Johns and Robert Rausenberg. Jasper Johns's use of changing color in his flag paintings influenced me to push color through the black bars. Robert Rausenberg's use of unconventional materials had me digging through my trash to find the barcodes that best described me. This piece has no theoretical beginning or end, and I designed it to viewed more like a painting and less like a film. I created this animation in Adobe After Effects using the grayscale barcode file as a moving matte, which I laid over the color packaging logo.
