Like the pixels that fill our television screens and the series of zeroes and ones through which we digitally communicate, these iconographic tributes are patterned mosaics. Each image is comprised of a series of barcodes, and by flipping, the viewer zooms into the image of an individual, past the organized patterning, into the elemental building block at the root of that image, a single barcode. These familiar portraits raise questions regarding authenticity and popular perception while exploring the terrain of the individual as cultural symbol. Own Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley as neither could have imagined; constructed from the UPCs of CDs and DVDs that construct the individuals' voices and images through binary code.
